EPHEMERAL ATMOSPHERES

Ephemeral Atmospheres is a practical design methodology proposed as a materialized set of methodological cards, result of a collaborative and participatory process with children aged 7 to 10 from Las Palmas school in Marsella, Risaralda, a rural coffee-growing region in Colombia, and the International School of Billund in Denmark.

Its goal is to establish and maintain deep connections between designers and children within school and everyday contexts, ensuring that the children's opinions and creative decisions become the foundation of the design processes.

The Methodology

The exploration of design and play through our collaborative and participatory project with the children from both contexts revealed the profound impact of involving them as active participants in the creative process within design projects.

By allowing the children to lead and guide the play dynamics, we broke down traditional hierarchical structures, fostering a more genuine and fluid interaction between designers and child participants, establishing bonds of affection and trust. This approach not only enriched the outcomes of the methodological design proposal but also offered us, as designers, a deeper understanding of the children's perspectives and opinions, which ultimately
became a key factor in enhancing our creative process.
